Commander Elevator Spar Fix

STC and Global AMOC Approved!

Harrison Aero is excited to offer Commander 112 and 114 owners a common-sense and affordable way to not only comply with elevator spar cracking AD 2011-07-13 and AD 2012-02-10 but to prevent future cracking.

Don't replace those spars!  Not only is the job time consuming and expensive, but when you drill out and reinstall all those rivets you increase the possibility of further damaging the skin or adjacent structure.  Plus the spars are such an integral part of the elevator, that getting everything aligned properly after the elevators have been completely apart is difficult and may result in aircraft trim issues or worse.

And of course replacing the spars is really just a band-aid, it's only a matter of time until they develop cracks again and then you'll be back to square one.   The FAA has reported Commanders with spar cracking in as few as 500 hours.  Fix them the right way now for peace of mind and increased future resale value!

The Common-Sense Solution

Our fix simply trims off the end of the spar and replaces it with a new, zero-time, spar segment attached with a lightweight and efficient splice.  In addition, we reinforce the fitting to evenly distribute the load and prevent future cracking.  This is an elegant, lightweight solution that gives Commander owners an affordable option for getting your planes back in the air and preventing future cracks.

Installation

Our kit was designed by aircraft mechanics so installation is straighforward and uses common sheetmetal techniques.  Should your mechanic be unavailable, or you just want the peace of mind from having it done right, you can ship your elevators to us for repair.  We've partnered with an expert mechanic (A&P/IA) that has the tools, fixtures, jigs, and experience to properly and promptly repair your elevators and carefully ship them back to you ready to install.  Contact us for details and pricing.

Use with New Spars

Already purchased new-old-stock or PMA replacement spars?  Our hinge fitting reinforcement components and hardware can be added to existing zero-time spars as an affordable fix to prevent future cracking. This really improves resale value (honestly, would you buy a plane that didn't have this fix installed)?  Call us to inquire about special pricing.
